Dr Edward Barin is Co-Director of the Division of Cardiology and Medical Director of the Macquarie Heart Clinic at Macquarie University Hospital Clinic. Dr Barin coordinates the Cardiac Diagnostic Unit of Macquarie Heart Clinc at Macquarie University Hospital Clinic. His clinical focus is on heart rhythm and device management. He graduated with Honours at Sydney Medical School, holds a Master's Degree from its School of Public Health, and completed Postgraduate Training in London, England.  He directs the Pacemaker and Devices Clinic at RNS Hospital, is Adjunct Professor in FEIT at UTS, and is Clinical Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University. He has been involved in device based, vascular and clinical research. He also treats patients at Ryde and Royal North Shore Hospitals, where he is Senior Consultant Cardiologist.

A/Prof Catherine Birman is a specialist adult and paediatric cochlear implant surgeon, otologist, and paediatric ENT surgeon with the Department of ENT at Macquarie University Hospital. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at Sydney University and a Conjoint Professor at Macquarie University. As well as working at Macquarie University Hospital she holds positions at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, RPAH and Hornsby Hospital. A/Prof Birman’s interests and expertise are in adult and paediatric cochlear implants, other implantable hearing devices, otology and paediatric ENT. A/Prof Birman is one of the most experienced cochlear implant surgeons in Australia, with expertise in hearing preservation surgery, single sided deafness, very young child implantation (including the youngest child in Australia at 3 months of age) and adult congenital and progressive hearing loss requiring cochlear implantation. This has led on to expertise in other implantable hearing devices, including BAHA, Sophono and Bonebridge along with ear surgery including cholesteatoma surgery and ossicular reconstruction. Paediatric ENT continues to be another area of interest and experience.

A/Prof BIrman has authored multiple peer reviewed papers and presents nationally and internationally on hearing loss, cochlear implants and paediatric ENT. She has run temporal bone workshops both here in Australia and Asia. A/Prof Birman is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. A/Prof Birman is the Head of Department at Hornsby Hospital, Deputy Director of the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre, and a member of the board of the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children. She has been the past Chair and Vice-Chair of the NSW Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and past Secretary for the Australian New Zealand Paediatric Otolaryngology Society.
