Professor Gumley is Head of the Macquarie Hand Unit. He has held prior appointments with Harvard and Boston Universities, and is the former Vice-Chair of Orthopaedics at the Lahey Clinic, Boston, and Director of the Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE in Phnom Penh.

Dr Simon Chan obtained his medical degree from the University of Sydney. In 1998, he was awarded the Zimmer Research Fellowship at the Jo Miller Laboratory in Montreal. He returned to Sydney for his clinical orthopaedic training. He then completed Hand Surgery Fellowships in world-renowned units at the University of Hong Kong and the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby, UK. Dr Chan treats patients with all hand surgical conditions. His main areas of interest include carpal injuries, complex wrist fractures, finger joint replacements and minimally invasive surgery (e.g. endoscopic carpal tunnel decompression and wrist arthroscopy). He has a public hospital appointment at Westmead Hospital, where he is the only surgeon who has completed a Fellowship in Hand Surgery. Dr Chan is actively involved in training students, junior doctors and surgeons. He is a moderator for the internet discussion group “Hand Surgery International”.

Dr Michael Dowd is a specialist Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon who trained in Sydney and Melbourne and later took a Fellowship in hand and micro surgery at St Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery in the United Kingdom. Whilst in the United Kingdom he successfully passed the diploma in hand surgery with the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand. He currently is director of Plastic Surgery training at Nepean Hospital and is past Secretary for the NSW Hand Surgery Association. Dr Dowd’s clinical interests include soft tissue disorders of the hand, carpal tunnel syndrome, dupuytren's disease, de Quervain’s tenosynovitis, trigger finger, tumours of the hand, arthritis of the small joints of the hand including basal thumb arthritis, management of sports injuries and complex hand trauma.  Dr Dowd is a member of the both the NSW Hand Surgery Association and the Australian Hand Surgery Society as well as the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr Dowd’s research interests include flexor tendon surgery, small joint arthroplasty, dupuytren's disease, basal thumb arthritis, fractures of the hand and soft tissue reconstruction of fingertip injuries. Dr Dowd is the Secretary of the NSW Hand Surgery Association and is a member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society and Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr Dowd’s research interests include flexor tendon surgery, small joint arthroplasty, Dupuytren's disease, basal thumb arthritis, fractures of the hand and soft tissue reconstruction of finger tip injuries.

Dr Ian Yuen grew up in Sydney on the north shore and studied medicine at the University of New South Wales, graduating in 2002. He chose Orthopaedic surgery for his speciality after an internship and residency at the Royal North Shore Hospital. Dr Yuen was awarded a fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012. He has subsequently completed numerous prestigious international fellowships in the subspecialty of hand and wrist surgery. Dr Yuen spent six months at the National University Hospital, Singapore studying hand and reconstructive microsurgery with Emeritus Professor Robert Pho and Associate Professor Aymeric Lim. He spent the following seven months at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London to further his expertise in this field. Dr Yuen has also spent time at the Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, India working with Dr Raja Sabapathy and in Hong Kong working with Dr PC Ho, a leading specialist in Wrist Arthroscopy.

Dr Yuen returned to Sydney to set up practice with the Macquarie Hand Unit and participates in regular on call and teaching junior staff at The Sydney Adventist Hospital. Dr Yuen has a particular interest and training in acute and chronic fractures and ligament injuries around the hand/wrist as well as Dupuytren’s disease (both surgical and minimally invasive management with Collagenase). General hand surgery such as carpal tunnel, trigger fingers and hand/wrist trauma also makes up a large part of his work. Dr Yuen is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, the Australian Hand Surgery Society and the NSW Hand Surgery Association.
